[13:36] The Syrian government is mobilizing in Damascus for a pro-Assad demo. In the city-centers of Aleppo and Damascus, the secret service has been further increased. Up to now, there are no dissidents gathering. In Aleppo, the university’s central library has already been closed yesterday in order to prevent students from meeting and organizing dissident actions.

Syria: Secret service thanks Kurdish parties

Syria: Demonstrators in Aleppo dispersed

[13:38] Demonstrators on Saʿdalah-al-Jabri-Square have dispersed. No additional demonstrators had joined them after the Friday prayers. Instead, the number of security forces had been continuously intensified. Moreover, numerous members of the secret service in civilian clothes were present. For tomorrow, additional demonstrations are announced.

[11:42] Hundreds of young people have gathered in small groups on Saʿdalah-al-Jabri-Square in Aleppo. Strong presence of secret service and police. In the surrounding quarters the number of security forces has also been intensified.

[10:13] Dissident demonstrations are planned in Damascus and Aleppo on February 4th and 5th. At this point it is not clear if and in what form the Kurdish population will take part in the protests. The Kurdish political parties have not yet called for participation. Over the next few days, KURDWATCH will use this space to report on the ongoing events in Syria. In doing so we will refer to information from local colleagues.
